John Tyler Wines

Welcome to the Westside Road neighborhood John Tyler Wines!!!! Well welcome to their Brand spanking new tasting room, they have lived there for quite some time. Yes, I attended their Industry grand opening and what a great NEW stop heading out Westside Road.

Yet another family business that focuses on just two varietals and they happen to be two of my favorite: PInot Noir and Zinfandel. Tyler Heck is at the helm making the wine. They do things differently here. They extend the barrel and bottle aging which provides a different, educational experience in tasting these two varietals. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I was also pleasantly surprised when my wife purchased a couple of bottles!

I have had the pleasure to meet the family prior to the opening of tasting room, thanks to Ken Macheras of Platypus Tours. Katey, Nicole, Pam and John Bacigalupi are all very, very nice people. I have not had the luxury of meeting Tyler Heck, but that is on my list for my next visit to John Tyler Wines. This winery experience is well worth the stop. Tell them the Geyserville Inn recommended you to stop by!

And say hello to Craig Smalley for me! He's another hospitalitarian!

Cio!

Mill Creek Winery

Mill Creek Winery just had their industry open house last week that I attended and there are many things to like about this winery. First and foremost, it is owned by the Kreck family which means it is also operated by the family. Jeremy Kreck is the winemaker and what a good job he does!

Secondly, the wines are very good and the current releases included a 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2009 un-oaked Chardonnay, 2006 Merlot, and 2005 Estate Merlot, 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and for Port fans a 2007 Port. I believe Jeremy was written up in the Press Democrat a few years back about making the Port, but ask him to confirm that!

Thirdly, their property is beautifully, peaceful. You can stand in the rustic tasting room sipping their wares while admiring framed White House menus reflecting their vintages from some years ago. A very nice touch!

Lastly, the tasting room is a lesson in hospitality 101, friendly, knowledgeable and resourceful. They will be happy to recommend your next stop! If Evonne, Bruce or Jeremy are there consider yourself very lucky! Everyone there is nice!
Tell them the Geyserville Inn sent you from their blog!

Things to come!

My name is Dan Christensen, Jr., General Manager for the Geyserville Inn and the Hoffman House Restaurant and I will be updating our web blog on regular basis with useful tidbits for our guests and friends.

It is my intention to share my experiences with all of the local wineries as they occur and provide useful information to our guests and friends. I, like you, am always looking for great wine and experiences in the wine country. An excellent tasting room experience which not only includes great wine, but great hospitality like we provide at the Geyserville Inn. More to come soon!

Weddings in wine country

Weddings

We have just been voted “The Best Wedding Site in Sonoma County” by the Bohemian Magazine. The phone has been ringing off the hook. We have over 15,000 square feet of outside event and meeting space surrounded by beautiful landscaping and 180 degree views of the vineyards in Alexander Valley.

Since civil weddings have been approved in California for Gay and Lesbian couples, we hope that our wedding business will be even stronger in 2009.
